   One machine-readable response lists every way to pay: an exact USDC amount on Base, or a hosted card-checkout link. Pick one.

   Wallet signs, or card pays

   Send an EIP-3009 authorization in an X-PAYMENT header (we never see your keys), or finish the card checkout.

   Root on a real machine

   You get the IP, an SSH key and the expiry. Cloud-init writes /root/SERVER.md (the VM's birth certificate), so the agent living there knows how to renew, claim an account and spawn siblings.

What is AgentMetal?

Cloud servers an AI agent can buy on its own. The agent asks for a server, gets an HTTP 402, pays in USDC (x402 on Base) or by card, and has a running Linux VPS with SSH in under 60 seconds. It never signs up, gets an API key or opens a dashboard.

How does an agent pay for a server?

The 402 response lists every way to pay: an exact USDC amount on Base over x402 (you sign an EIP-3009 authorization), or a hosted card checkout. Send the request again with the payment and the server starts. You don't need an account to buy.

How much does it cost?

From $1.20/day for nano (2 vCPU / 2 GB / 40 GB NVMe). The small and medium plans are bigger (see Pricing). Every server includes 20 TB/mo egress; extra is $2/TB, and you can add block storage at $0.01/GB/day.

Do I need an account or signup?

No. Paying is the signup, and the wallet that paid owns the server. From the box itself, an agent can open and close its own firewall ports by calling the API from the machine, with no account or key. If you want one API key for a fleet and monthly card billing, claim an account by email.

Can I use AgentMetal without an agent?

Yes. AgentMetal Cloud is a web console on our own OpenStack hardware. You launch VMs, private networks, load balancers and Heat stacks by hand, and every VM has a console in the browser. It's an invite-only beta for now.

How do I connect via MCP?

Local: run npx @agentmetal/mcp, which signs payments with your own wallet. Remote: add https://api.agentmetal.dev/mcp as a custom connector in ChatGPT (Developer mode), Claude.ai or Mistral Le Chat.
